The Blue Mountains climate is genuinely excellent for growing food, mild summers, reliable cool-season rainfall, a long autumn and spring growing window, and the kind of soil-building conditions that come with organic matter from surrounding bush. But most Mountain gardens are on slopes, and any productive vegetable growing on a slope benefits enormously from level terraced beds retained by low walls.
Garden and vegetable garden retaining walls are on the smaller end of the retaining wall spectrum, but getting material selection, drainage and height right still matters, particularly in the Mountains’ frost-prone high-altitude areas where the wrong material can fail within a few winters.
